Scientific and advertising photography

Photography is my core business, and remains my heartfelt profession. While today I use digital technology for my work, my experience in film photography has taught me to work on the image at its conception, to take care of the composition, the framing, the exposure, the development, the printing, to understand and master all the parameters that make an image a representation as it was in my mind. I use a camera as a painter would use his brushes, the technique fading away in favor of the thing represented.

My career in this profession is quite eclectic, a scientist by training, I began my professional career as an assistant at national museums, the reproduction of works of art taught me a lot about the rigor of this discipline: at that time, ektachrome was the only way to correctly record an image, and there was no possibility of retouching after the fact, the image had to be perfect from the moment it was recorded, and the exposure latitudes were minimal.

In 1993, I went to Bosnia, to Sarajevo, to cover the war for a French newspaper, and I learned to use my camera in a different way than in aseptic conditions to produce images identical to their model. This experience was, from a professional point of view, a discovery of another use of photography, which requires a keen sense of context, graphics, representation and the gestalt of an image.

Teaching photography came naturally, and having suffered from the national education system myself, I made it a point of honor to explain photography so that it was understandable, applied, fun, and open to other sciences and technologies. I started by teaching photography to students at communication schools (Sup de Pub, Cesacom, Iesa, etc.) and to engineering students (Hétic).

Today, photography is still at the heart of my professional activity, and production requirements do not prevent me from continuing to explore this art. I am constantly looking for new avenues: virtual tour, 360 photography, HDR, stereoscopy, gigapixel, timelapses, cinemagraph, development of KrPano plugins, ...
